Obituary of Michael Robert Castracane
MICHAEL R. CASTRACANE (THE HAMMER)
MECHANICVILLE - Michael Robert "The Hammer" Castracane, 67, of Mechanicville, beloved husband of Cindy (Vautrin) Castracane passed away suddenly on November 30, 2025, at his home.
Born on December 5, 1957, in Cohoes, NY, Michael was the son of Timothy and Catherine Castracane. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1980 to 1985.
Affectionately known as "Mike the Hammer," Mike was a larger-than-life personality with a big heart. He was an avid Harley-Davidson rider and enthusiast, enjoyed hunting, and being a big kid at heart — especially when playing magic with Mike, Angela, and TJ. He loved spending evenings around the table playing Texas Hold'em with Justin and Jerry and cherished traveling to various casinos with his devoted wife, Cindy.
In addition to his beloved wife, Cindy Castracane, Mike is survived by his children: Michael Castracane II, Timothy "TJ" Castracane, Angela Castracane, Jennifer Vautrin, Jolene Trujillo, Justin Vautrin, Jerry Edwards II, and Julie Edwards, as well as his 20 cherished grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings Susan O'Keefe, Leah Finn, and Guy Castracane as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Jeff Vautrin, sister Cathy Castracane.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY. Military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the calling hours at 11:00 a.m.
