Obituary of Eugene Francis Groeber

NEWTONVILLE - Eugene Francis Groeber, 93, of Newtonville, beloved husband to the late Dorothy Louise (Griffin) Groeber, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Born in Albany, N.Y. on November 13, 1932, he was the son of the late Louis and Minnie (Fix) Groeber. Eugene and Dorothy were married in 1951 and enjoyed 69 cherished years together.

Eugene served honorably in the United States Navy. He worked and retired from the SUNY Central Administration as the Director of Financial Services. He was also a co-founder of the Par-Nil Travel Golf League.

Eugene is survived by his loving children Kelley Couillard and Gregory Groeber; his six adoring grandchildren Jason Sgroi, Michael Sgroi, Marissa Sgroi-Vekasy, Sally Couillard, Genie Couillard-Clarke and Tyler Groeber; as well as his eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his late parents and wife, Eugene is predeceased by his daughter Kim Sgroi, as well as his seven siblings Edward, Eleanor, Elsie, Don, Marion, Betty and Helen.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Saturday, February 14, (Valentine's Day, the day that Gene and Dot met) 2026 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. A prayer service will conclude the visitation beginning at 5:00 PM with Rev. John Califano officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
