Latham-William A. Kiffney, 69 of Latham, beloved husband of Janet Doyle Kiffney for over 42 years, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at his home in Latham with his family at his side.
Born April 23, 1943 in Buffalo, NY he was the son of Mary Konysz Kiffney of Johnstown NY and the late John Kiffney. He is survived by his loving children Karen Kiffney of Cambridge MA and Michael (Arista) Kiffney of Vienna VA, his cherished grandchildren Sydney and Thomas Kiffney of Vienna VA and his lifelong friend Allan Kleinke of Guilderland, six cousins, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, two nephews and their wives, and several great nephews and a great niece. In addition to his father he was pre-deceased by his brother John Francis Kiffney.
Bill was raised in Johnstown NY and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1966. He worked for New York State in several different Departments, retiring from the Department of Transportation as an Associate Transportation Analyst after 37 years of State service.
Bill was a devoted father and husband whose first concern was always for the comfort and happiness of his family. As an adult, he enjoyed many sports as a fan and continued his childhood participation in youth baseball by coaching and managing several of his son's Little League teams and his daughter's softball team. In retirement he renewed his past love of golf and discovered a new interest in darts.
Although they are distant, Bill visited with his young grandchildren frequently and thoroughly enjoyed their exuberance and laughter.
Bill will be missed by his wife, family and his friends. He was a gentle man who asked for very little and gave generously.
