Obituary of Richard M. Lipe

RICHARD M. "Rick" LIPE Albany - Richard M. Lipe, 66 of Albany, died Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's, in Albany. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Michael L. and Marian I. (Lobdell) Lipe. Rick was the longtime companion of the late Kathryn Gonzalez who died in 2008. He was raised in Latham and was a 1964 graduate of Shaker High School. He graduated from Hudson Valley Community College and received his Masters degree from New Mexico Highlands University. He was employed at the Stratton Veterans Administration Hospital as a social worker for many years until his retirement. Rick was a longtime member of Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was a well known local musician with his own CD titled "Unusual Way". He loved the outdoors especially sailing, canoeing and golf. Survivors include his cousins: Cheryl (David) Slezak of Amsterdam, Sheila (the late Robert) Koziomkowski of North Carolina, Richard Felski of Amsterdam, Carol (Milt) Fresbie of Pennsylvania, Roy Lobdell of Ballston Spa, Cris (Bob) Labombard of Clifton Park, Paul M. Lobdell of Latham, William Maurice of Esperance, Catherine, Sandra and Frederick Lipe formerly of Niskayuna and the late Barbara (William) Rieth of Burnt Hills. Funeral services will be held Friday May 10, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be next to his beloved Kathryn in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.
