Obituary of Robert F. Dressler

ROBERT F. DRESSLER Colonie- Robert F. Dressler died on May 21, 2013 at Community Hospice @ St. Peters Nursing Center, Albany at the age of 83. He was the husband of Shirley (Thompson) Dressler for 63 years. He was born in Syracuse, New York and was a graduate of North High School and then received a Bachelor of Science from the College of Forestry at Syracuse University. Bob also completed the Management Program at R.P.I. He was a US Navy Veteran, having served during the Korean War. Bob was employed with the Manning Paper Co. in Green Island for over 32 years, retiring in 1986, after serving in several managerial positions. He was a member of the American Paper Institute and served on the specialty paper committee of GATT. He also served on the board of directors of the Home and City Savings Bank for many years. Upon retirement from Manning, he was affiliated with Blackman & DeStefano Real Estate. A resident of Latham for over 50 years, he was active in the Latham Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, serving as manager of several teams throughout the years. Bob spent many vacations with his family on Cape Cod and in later years enjoyed traveling abroad, particularly to Europe, Australia and New Zealand. He also enjoyed golfing, oil painting and listening to classical music. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Survivors in addition to his wife, include his loving children: Robert (Diana) Dressler of Penfield, NY, Deborah (Salvatore) Macaione of Albany and William (Stephanie) Dressler of Roswell, GA as well as his cherished grandchildren: Rachel, Evan, Michael and Kyle. He is also survived by his sister Sharon Heath of Syracuse and several nieces. Special thanks to the staff of St. Peters Nursing Center for their loving care. A memorial service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 15 Ridge Place, Latham on Saturday June 1, 2013 at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place in Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
