JOAN ANN ASHTON
Latham - Joan Ann Ashton, 80 of Latham, beloved wife of the late Raymond F. Ashton Sr., entered into eternal life on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at her home in Latham.
Born in Cohoes on December 7, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Anna (Opalka) Hoblock Sr. Joan was married at St. Ambrose Church in Latham to Raymond F. Ashton Sr. and the two shared a beautiful marriage of 38 years prior to his passing on March 6, 1996. She traveled and lived in many areas of the world including Europe with her family. She was an expert hostess who loved to cook and entertain for her guests. Joan was a great mother, wife and story teller. She was very sociable and loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192 and volunteered for over 10 years at Albany Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include her loving children Lisa (Vince) Cappelluti of Latham, Raymond F. (Mapy) Ashton Jr. of Roswell, GA and Rebecca (Bill) Ashton-King of Sterling, VA. Her cherished grandchildren Anne Cappelluti, Vincent Cappelluti, Raymond Ashton, Nicholas Ashton, Emily Ashton, Spencer King, Liz King and Matt King, and her adored great-granddaughter Annabelle Miller. She was the dear sister of Michael (Karen) Hoblock Jr. of Halfmoon, Judi (Ed) Rooney of Ponce Inlet FL and Paul Hoblock of Albany. She was the Aunt of Michael Rooney and Sean Rooney and is also survived by many cousins and friends.
Joan's Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday August 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home 149 Old Loudon Road Latham on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Interment will be next to her beloved husband Raymond in Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The family would like to thank the Eastview Estate neighbors and friends and the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County for their love and attention given to Joan during her illness.
