Obituary of Gerald Wayne Schuster
GERALD WAYNE SCHUSTER
Latham- Gerald Wayne Schuster, of Latham, passed into life eternal on July 28, 2018.
Jerry was born August 6, 1931 in Valley Stream, NY, the son of Edward E. and Nora (Nilsen) Schuster. He spent his childhood and adult years on Long Island until his retirement, when he and his wife then moved to Albany. He met his wife at a church function and they were married for 64 years. Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was also a member of the Joseph E. Zaloga American Legion Post 1520 in Albany.
Jerry was a longtime member of the Bayport United Methodist Church, holding various offices such as Trustee, President of the Men's Club and Captain of Ushers. Most recently he was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham where he enjoyed helping Pastor John Phillippe cook for the Capital City Rescue Mission.
He is survived by his wife Bernice (McGinnis) Schuster, daughters Susan Lynn Schuster (Jean) of Troy and Lee Ann Laven (Robert) of Menands, granddaughter Chloe Rae Laven, sister Ruth McDermet and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was predeceased by his son Jeffrey, sisters Elsa Walsh, Joan Ford, and brothers Raymond and Edward Schuster and Edgar Beckvar.
Visitation at the Calvary United Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 1st at 15 Ridge Place, Latham from 12 to 1 pm.
Funeral services for Jerry will be celebrated immediately following the visitation at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Jerry's memory to the Calvary United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 15 Ridge Place, Latham, NY 12110
Inurnment with military honors will take place at Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
