My first mentor in the restaurant industry was Jasper (Jack) Mazar. After promoting me to my first general manager position at BJ Jasper’s he took me under his wing to teach me the business. Jack had more trust and faith in my abilities than I did in myself at such a young age. I remained his GM until he sold the business in the mid 1990’s.
The last time I spoke with Jack was about 10 years ago and I am heartbroken to have just found out today that he passed away just over 2 years ago.
Thank you Jack for your mentorship, leadership, guidance, trust, friendship, and most of all for supporting me and instilling the confidence that allowed me to thrive in a successful restaurant career for many years after that first day I walked through the doors of BJ Jasper’s in 1991.
Rest in peace old friend.

I am so very very sorry to hear of your loss. I know Jackie was a wonderful brother and of the closeness you shared with him. Memories to be forever treasured.
