Obituary of Alman J. Hawkins

ALMAN J. HAWKINS Alman J. Hawkins of Watervliet NY passed away early Monday morning at Northwoods Nursing Home in Schenectady after a long illness. He was born in 1929 in Graham OK to Alman J and Elma Hawkins. The family moved to southern CA in the early 1940s where Alman attended Longbeach Polytechnic High School. Later the family relocated to Odessa TX, where he took an A.S. in Pre-Engineering from Odessa College. This was where he would meet and fall in love with his wife, Juanita Young. From there they went to Lubbock where Mr Hawkins took a B.A. in Government Studies from Texas Technological College, where he also received his M.A. in Government. In 1959 he also undertook additional postgraduate studies in Government at the Maxwell School (Syracuse University). While in Syracuse, his daughter Sue and then son Hal were born. He worked at Blair Associates, the Onondaga County Planning Department, and Sergeant Webster Crenshaw & Folley participating in planning work. In 1967 he was named Oswego County Planning Director; the family moved to Oswego in 1968. He retired in 1986. He loved working for Oswego County, made many friends there, and loved to reminisce about his times there. He is survived by his wife Juanita, of Watervliet NY, two children, Hal of New York City, and Sue of Round Lake NY, and one grandson, A.J. of Odessa TX. He was keen on photography, was a gymnast in high school, was interested in bodybuilding as a young adult, loved history, and was a really funny guy who liked people. Memorial services will take place at Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville on Monday October 26 at 2:00 pm with Rev.
