Obituary of Donald L. Hicks

DONALD L. HICKS Albany-Donald Lee Hicks, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 21, 2021 at his home in Albany, New York. He was born Wednesday September 24, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Cortes and Ella Marie Hicks. He moved to New York City in 1942, at the age of 12. On May 27, 1961 he married Mary Lowry, who he was married to until her death in 2015. The two raised six children in the Inwood neighborhood in New York City, and he continued to live there until 2016. Donald worked as a loan officer for Chase Manhattan Bank for over 25 years until he retired. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as sitting in the park feeding birds, playing along with Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, solving word searches, and spending time with his family. Donald was also a devout Catholic and a proud man of his faith. He is survived by five children, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy, his sister Beverly, and his niece Sherry. Those whose lives were touched by Donald are invited to attend his graveside service at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, New York, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday February 24, 2021.
