Obituary of Joseph S Shunk Sr.
JOSEPH S. SHUNK SR.
LATHAM - Joseph S. Shunk Sr., 93, of Latham, beloved husband of Helen Caulfield Shunk entered into eternal life on Monday, September 27, 2021.
Born in Jackson Heights, N.Y. on February 14, 1928, he was the son of the late Frank and Carmel (Vargas) Shunk. He married Helen Caulfield on July 10, 1954 and they shared a beautiful marriage of over 67 years. Joe served in the Army from 1946-1947.
For many years he worked as an accountant at Welsh & Grey Inc. in East Greenbush. In retirement, he enjoyed a second career in business with his sons Christopher and Joseph at Hammersmith Homebrew in Latham.
Joe and Helen were longtime communicants of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham. Throughout his life, Joe loved hosting clamsteams with his family, gardening, watching the ups and downs of his favorite team, the New York Yankees, and bowling with his church league. He was also a member of Colonie Elks Lodge #2192 for many years.
He took great pride in his family and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and musical performances.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving children Patricia (Tim) Moran, Carol Shunk, Mary Ellen (David) Demers, Joseph S. (Tara) Shunk Jr., Timothy J. (Patti) Shunk, and Christopher (Kasia) Shunk; cherished grandchildren Austin T., Jessica L., Christopher J., and Brody M.; his sister-in-law Barbara Shunk and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 4, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
Interment with military honors will be on Monday, October 4, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
