We got to know Howard through the BLHS and always enjoyed being in his company at the spring and fall luncheons. We also enjoyed reading his monthly articles in the BLHS bulletin. We are so glad that we talked to him on the phone not long before his passing. Deepest condolences to his entire family and very closest friends. He will be missed and remembered always !

Howard always had just the right words to say. His speeches were so touching. He was a good friend and advocate to everyone He captured so many beautiful pictures and was always sure to share them. Everyone that met him loved him. My thoughts are with your entire family during this difficult time.

To the Hontz Family, Please accept my condolences. Working for and with Mr. Hontz during my years with The D&H as a train dispatcher (1970-1988) was a pleasure. I'm sure everyone who worked with him has their fond memories too. With his death an era has ended; an era where you were valued as an employee, enjoyed and respected your fellow workers and felt like part of a family in large part due to people like Howard. May God grant him peace and comfort his survivors.

Did you know Howard ended every meeting he attended of the Colonie Senior Citizens Club with a light hearted joke? It was often the highlight of the meeting. People stayed to the end, as well as were quiet, while Howard spoke, followed by roaring with laughter. One of the first meetings of the club that I attended, he passed baskets for folks to put in "just a $1" for necessities for those with less than we had -- for toilet paper and the like. He was thoughtful of others, always. He did not brag about his accomplishments. He was a gentleman always. Here at Beltrone, he livened the weekly poker games with his presence and light humor. It was a time for the guys to get together at night and enjoy each other's company. We moved here after Jean passed; but we had heard wonderful things about them as a couple and how devoted he was to her care. John enjoyed playing pool with him back in the day when they both played pool and they both enjoyed the golf league too. We had Howard and Audrey to our apt only once for coffee and apple pie. He loved you all tremendously and was so very proud of you as well. Our sincere condolences.

Brian, Rob and Families - I was so fortunate to have visited with Howard in March when I was up to see Dad. We had a great talk - he even started naming all his great & great great grandchildren! I told him his memory was much better than mine! Every time I saw him he would say “where’s my pink paint?” He painted my tummy pink when I was a little girl. The Connors and Hontz’s have many precious memoris together. Robert and I send our heartfelt condolences, prayers and love to you all.
