Obituary of Carl "Eric" Unger

CARL "ERIC" UNGER Albany-Carl "Eric" Unger, 76 of Newbury, New Hampshire, entered into eternal life on Thursday June 23, 2022 in Albany with the love of his life Terry Palumbo at his side. Born in Troy, NY on December 21, 1945, he was the son of the late Carl William and Mary E. Cronk Unger. He was a graduate of Alfred University with a bachelors degree in Ceramic Engineering. Eric was employed at Sturm Ruger Firearms for over 30 years and retired as General Manager of the Pinetree Castings Division in New Hampshire. Eric was co-chairman of the Newbury Conservation Commission. He was a volunteer with Trout Unlimited and at the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy. He was responsible for protection of hundreds of acres of land in the Newbury New Hampshire area. Eric was an avid hiker, member of the ADK hiking club and nearing completion of all 46 high peaks in the Adirondacks. He completed the Presidential Range in New Hampshire. He was a longtime member of the Newbury Yacht Club. He was a longtime season-ticket holder at Sunapee Mountain in New Hampshire skiing for over 40 days a season. He loved his canine companions Darya and Wolfegang and was predeceased by his loving canine Joe. The love that Eric and Terry shared was absolute, they supported, loved and cared for each other for over 17 years. They traveled, they laughed and just enjoyed being together whether in Albany, New Hampshire or exploring the states. Survivors include his love Terry M. Palumbo, his sister Jo-Ellen Unger, cousins Carole A. Pepe and W. Blake Kirk, his nieces Taryn (Rob) Matusik and Darcy O'Loughlin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday June 27, 2022 at 11:30 am at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville with Rev. James Walsh officiating.
