James was perhaps the sharpest of us in State Department Crisis Management Training (CMT), crafting challenging Exercises where the Emergency Action Committee of an Embassy or Consulate General was thoroughly tested but could still "win" -- making for memorable Lessons Learned and deeply-ingrained "muscle memory" under stress or under fire.
Farewell, Shipmate. Fair winds and following seas. Douglas Kinney, OSAC, Diplomatic Security

We were so sad to learn of James' unexpected passing. We worked with James at Marriott on launching a new line of business which led us to adventures in London on many occasions and even to Turks & Caicos. Traveling with James meant the sound of his infectious laugh and a great story to hear. He taught us about hospitality and about keeping high standards. Most importantly, he taught us about being authentic to one's self, no matter the complexities, and to care for others and find ways to make work fun. James was good and kind. The world is a little less bright, but we know somewhere above, he is looking upon us with his big smile, impeccable hair, tailored suits, crisp white shirt and witty sayings, all while enjoying the finest cocktail heaven has to offer. Rest in peace, friend.

We are so very saddened and shocked to hear of James’ passing. As so many others have commented, James leaves a wonderful impression on folks, even if its for a short time of knowing him.
In between James’ time at Marriott and Edward Jones, we had the great pleasure of having him as a temporary Change Manager at the New York Power Authority as part of our small but mighty Change Management Team.
He was with our team at a critical time: through the stresses of our COVID response his depth and breadth of experience provided an important anchor for our team as he served a trusted lead on some of our largest change efforts that touched every corner of our organization.
We will carry James' memory in our hearts and send his loved ones our condolences and support.
With love from the NYPA Change Management Team that had the pleasure to call James our colleague:

James was kind, caring and incredibly generous and had a huge servant’s heart. He made each person feel loved. James had an amazing gift of hospitality and made each appetizer, each meal feel like a special event. His sudden passing has left a huge gap in the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those that loved James, most of all Jared, Joyce, Sharon, Laura, Heather, Alex, Nick, his many nieces, nephews, and our family. We loved James and our hearts are broken.

I am so sorry to learn of James’s passing. He was a bright, inquisitive, kind student. I was pleasantly surprised one day many years after his graduation when he appeared in my classroom. I remember his bright eyes and smile, and most especially his joy in telling me about his life. To Jared, his mother, and his sisters, I send my love and sympathy. He truly brought light to this world.

I am a better person for having known James. I simply cannot put into words all that I feel. My sincere condolences to Jared and all of the Addisons. I have so many many memories. James was absolutely my favorite polka partner. I can still recall how joyful and free it felt spinning around the dance floor. Thankful for every moment we were able to share that.

To Jared and The Addison Family: I am so sorry for James’ passing and your loss. James was a wonderful person and friend, and I will miss him greatly. The beautifully written obituary captures him so well. I have attached some photos from James and Jared’s time in Washington DC -- with the rowing team, traveling with friends, and a fancy dress night out on the town hosted by James and Jared. I am wishing you all love and peace at this time. – Tom Fox

James gave his all to everything he did in life including loving others. He made us feel like family immediately upon meeting him and made our family complete. Yes there is a hole in our hearts right now, but there is so much we have gained in our lives by being in his presence and watching James live life to the fullest! We love and miss the most wonderful Uncle James! Love and prayers to Jared and the Addisons - we love you all! ❤️ Love, Kevin, Heather, Micah, and Lucy
