Obituary of Katherine R. Bonville

Katherine R. (Kubat) Bonville

LATHAM - Katherine "Kay" Bonville of Latham passed away peacefully on March 11th, 2023 after a long life of accomplishing a great many things, and being loved by a great many people.

Born in Windsor Heights, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Katherine and Alexander Kubat, and stepdaughter of Joseph Wiencek. After growing up in West Virginia, Kay moved to Washington D.C. to take a job with the government. Finding that this was not enough of a challenge, Kay and a good friend signed up for the U.S. Marine Corps. She proudly served as a Corporal for two years in the Marines in Washington D.C. and in the Norfolk Navy Yard.

After the Marine Corps, Kay worked at the VA Hospital as a medical transcriber. This is where she met her future husband Joe Bonville. She later worked at the former Cohoes Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital in Troy.

Kay is survived by her loving children, Joseph R. Bonville Jr (Becky), Lynn Bonville, Susan Kirch (Larry), Robert Bonville (Eve), and Kathy Cavanaugh. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Kara, Kelly (Matt Russo) and Julie Cavanaugh (Hank Olivas), Brian Bonville, and Helen Kirch. She is also survived by two sisters, Deanie Merenoff and Josephine Smith, as well as many nieces and nephews. Kay was pre-deceased by her husband of 67 years, Joe Bonville, her sisters Julianne Wait, Mary Chincheck, Ida Myers, Helen Stoica, Joann Atkins, and Jennie Roller, and her granddaughter Allison Rose Kirch.

Kay was many things: a wife, a mother, a medical transcriber, a Marine, and a great cook. But nothing gave her more pride and joy than being a grandmother. The patience, comfort, and love she gave to her grandchildren was immeasurable, and will continue on through the life lessons she imparted. The impact she made on this world endures, as her tenacity and devotion to family live on in her children and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed, but never forgotten by the loved ones she cared for, whose lives were changed for the better by knowing her.
