Obituary of John Joseph Connor
JOHN JOSEPH CONNOR
LOUDONVILLE - John Joseph Connor (affectionately known by family & friends as "Jack"), of Loudonville Assisted Living Residence, beloved husband of the late Phyllis (Martin) Connor, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2023 at his residence at Loudonville Assisted Living.
Born January 18, 1927 in Johnson City, NY; John was the son of the late Michael and Grace (Jones) Connor. He married the former Phyllis Martin on August 18, 1951. They cherished 60 wonderful years of marriage together, before Phyllis's passing on February 15, 2012.
John proudly served as a Radioman 3rd class in the U.S. Navy from Sept. 15, 1944 to June 20, 1946. He received the American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal.
John graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked first with the Delaware & Hudson (D & H) Railroad, then later with the NYS Public Service Commission and finishing his career with 18 years working for the NYS Department of Transportation, where he was the Head of the Rail Division.
He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and in later years at the Calvary Methodist Church in Latham, NY.
John loved the outdoors, as he took his family on regular camping/fishing trips each summer to various locales in the Northeast US. He also enjoyed participating in a regular bowling league in his younger adult years. Golf became one of his favorite leisure activities, as he played well into his later years in life. He was also an avid fan of his NY Giants football team.
In addition to his beloved late wife and parents, John was predeceased by his sister Joan Kemler, his son David Michael Connor. He is survived by his loving daughter Nancy Munro (Robert).and his loving son Robert (Bob) Connor (Claire). He has four cherished grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caring staff at the Loudonville Assisted Living Residence for the care and compassion they showed towards Jack in his last several years in their facility.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00am at Calvary Methodist Church, 15 Ridge Place in Latham. Visitation will be held during the half hour prior to the service beginning at 10:30 am in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in John's memory to Calvary Methodist Church.
Final arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Latham.
