Obituary of Peter George Mullany
PETER GEORGE MULLANY
LATHAM - Peter George Mullany, 80, longtime resident of Latham, NY, passed away on August 27th, 2023 after a courageous fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Peter was born in Great Barrington, MA to the late James and Anne Mullany on September 1st, 1942. He graduated from Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA and then earned a law degree from Albany Law School, passing the NY bar shortly thereafter. He was well respected and admired by his peers during his lengthy tenure as Attorney for the Fair Hearings division of the NY State Department of Social Services.
Peter is survived by his lovely and adored wife Lana (Clark) Mullany, his children Michael Mullany of Saratoga Springs, NY, Theresa Mullany (Bruce Smith)of Glenville, NY, Matthew Mullany (Carolyn Campbell ) of West Hebron, NY, and his youngest son and friend Timothy Mullany of Latham. He is the proud Grandfather of Isaiah and Jared Smith. Peter is also survived by his loving siblings, James Mullany of Tabernacle, NJ, Jean Davidson (Jack) of Lee, MA, and Anne Mullany of South Yarmouth, MA. He is predeceased by his brother John Mullany (Linda Wheeler) of Great Barrington, MA.
Other than his passion for golf, Peter was also an avid reader and had an extensive library that he accumulated over the years, often joking that he would never have the time to finish every title. He was also a resolute supporter of the Boston Red Sox, always enjoying watching the games with his sons, but denying his interest whenever the team disappointed. Peter cherished his dogs, insisting that they provided him so much more comfort than he could provide them. He always looked forward to the next home cooked meal and visits from his loved ones.
Peter and his family would like to express a heartfelt expression of gratitude to the team at Community Hospice for providing comfort and compassion during his final days.
As per Peter's request, no funeral or memorial services will be held.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, Peter would appreciate if we kept him in our hearts and thoughts for awhile. Honor his memory by spending time lost in great books and writings. Immerse yourself in song, music and art that touches you and speaks to you. Seek truth and honesty within these works. Continue a life quest in search of new authors and artists. Share what you learn and discover.
Peter would encourage you to always be on time. To replace your divot. To repair your ball mark. Don't play golf with those that do not.
Be humble, become even more humble. Be thankful, become even more thankful. Be good to one another.
We love you dad.
