It was incredibly sad to hear the news of Lisa's passing.
Though we lost touch when she moved back up to NY and I moved out west, I will always cherish the memories of spending time with Lisa in DC.
At a time when I was in need of a friend and community, Lisa was there, like she was for so many people. She's dearly missed.

You are forever in my heart Lisa Burke. It feels surreal to even write this. Your infectious laughter and humor brought light wherever you went! You defined the meaning of the human spirit and had such an incredible heart. The years we spent together growing up are my fondest, dearest memories - camping with my family, trips to the farm, epic monopoly games, hours listening to the Beatles and Fleetwood Mac….too many things to list, these memories with you are gold. God we had good laughs, like insane laughs over so many things! Laughing where we shook the “camper” as everyone tried to go to sleep at night lol. You are one of the few I managed to laugh hysterically with over just about anything! And our mutual love of cats!!
Gone far too soon from this Earthly realm, I know you’ve crossed over as pure light and are only a breath away. And you are no longer suffering. Love you forever my dear friend, thank you for your light. You are an absolute TREASURE. PS, all I want to do is go camping again with you too. Love you “punk” XO

We will miss hearing Lisa's voice as she and Charlie sit by their pool on a summer evening chatting quietly. We will miss seeing her and Charlie sitting by their fire pit as the guardians of Penny Royal Lane.
Lisa was a wonderful neighbor and I cannot imagine the sadness her loss has brought you. Our deepest condolences.

Lisa was a HONS (Head of New Students) when many of us started at Smith in 1998. She was a sophomore so knew so many things we didn’t! But Lisa was the best possible person to be a HONS as she welcomed each of us, helped us feel at home at Morrow House and made us feel at ease, wherever we came from.
We will remember her laughing and smiling in the hallway, dining hall or quad, always with friends around her and always making space for others to feel included too. We are so deeply sorry to hear of her passing but we will always cherish these wonderful memories Lisa gave us.
Sending our deepest condolences and much love to all Lisa’s family and friends. We have made a group donation in her honor.

Her natural state was “invitation” and if you met her, you knew that the invitation was for you.

When you travel with somebody, you get to learn the best things about them, and the worst.
Lisa was a perfect travel companion. She had great energy even on the second day of trying to get somewhere, and she made people feel special. Also, she was really aware of what was going on and she thought about what we should do next. Practical and joyous.
I am glad that I got to know her when that impossibly young group of people in the photo and me spent the year in Geneva. Look at this great smile, and remember that in person her green eyes were even more sparkly. Beautiful inside and out, and you could see it every time you were around her.

I met Lisa Burke at Smith, during our year of study abroad in Geneva. To this day, she is the voice in my head that nudges me past my timidity, saying: "Let's try it. Why not? It could be fun!" I'm so sad that voice of adventure and delight has been silenced, so soon.
