Obituary of Bruce F. Wideman

BRUCE F. WIDEMAN

COHOES - Bruce F. Wideman, 75, of Cohoes, passed away on Sunday, November 5th, 2023 at Shaker Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with family members at his bedside.

Born in Albany, NY on August 2, 1948 he was the son of the late Frank Vincent and Thelma Pauline (Finch) Wideman.

Bruce graduated from Phillip Schuyler High School in Albany, NY. After graduation he worked as a Carpenter's Apprentice, employed by Local Union 370 (291), United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America. He worked on many large projects including Harriman State Office Bldg Campus, Rockefeller Empire State Plaza and several SUNY campuses. Bruce built three homes and a four-unit apartment building under his own company. After 26 years he retired and enjoyed being a snowbird traveling back and forth to Florida. He loved taking his family and friends out on his pontoon boat on the Mohawk and was an avid golfer and pool player enjoying many rounds of both with his friends in Florida. He looked forward to his weekly morning get-togethers for breakfast with the guys. Above all else, Bruce loved his family. He took a four-year hiatus from doing all the things he enjoyed to help raise his grandson whom he loved with all of his heart. He will be forever remembered and loved by all who knew him.

Bruce is survived by his daughter Mary L. (Wideman) Gasarowski and her husband Timothy of Manahawkin, NJ; his two grandchildren Shelby (Rider) Leonard (Roger) with a great grandson on the way and Eric J. Rider; his two brothers Kurt Wideman (Carmela Daubney) of Glenmont, NY and Frank Wideman (Patricia) of Stafford, VA; as well as three nieces Stephanie (VA), Michelle (England) and Dana Balzer (Tom) of NY. Also, extended families of Karen (David) Johnson of VA, and Beverly Sann of VA.

The family would like to thank Dr. Susan Weaver, NYOH, for her excellent care and time spent in treating Bruce's condition, explaining his diagnosis, treatment options and evaluations. We also want to thank his many friends who provided support, including Frank Mugrace, Edith and Reed Sleasman, and Lisa Nava.
