WATERVLIET - Robert "Al" N. Pettalino, 91 of Watervliet and formerly Latham, beloved husband of Shirley (Brooks) Pettalino., passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, with his loving granddaughters Nikki and Jacki at his side.
Born in Latham, NY, he was the son of the late Anthony and Nancy (Balletta) Patalino. Al attended Latham schools and enlisted in the US Army in 1951 serving honorably until his discharge in 1955. He married his wife of 67 years, Shirley Brooks, on August 25, 1956.
Al was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, to many. Prior to beginning his work as a self-employed contractor, he owned and operated two fuel and service stations in Latham. Growing up on a farm, he enjoyed horseback riding, which later turned into a love for horse racing. He was a social butterfly and could often be found at Stewarts in the company of friends playing his numbers and scratch offs. He was also a fan of Stewarts coffee, donuts, and pizza. He was always on the go, and rarely found sitting down.
He was very proud of his work as a contractor, working right up until his final months. But he cherished his family the most. He would go above and beyond for them, and would do whatever he could to help. He was the youngest And last living of his 11 siblings. He will be fondly remembered, and forever, cherished by those he touched
