Obituary of Donald J. Lesperance
LATHAM - Donald J. Lesperance, 92 of Latham, beloved husband of Jean A. (Mulligan) Lesperance, passed away at Samaritan Hospital in Troy on Sunday, March 17, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Don was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving honorably from 1951 – 1955. He was a communicant of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville, NY.
Born in Schenectady NY on December 27, 1931 he was the son of the late George Lesperance and Ada (Clow) Lesperance. Don attended Schenectady schools and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. He married Jean (Mulligan) on October 15, 1960 and celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Don graduated with an Associate's degree, in the second Engineering class that was offered at Hudson Valley Community College. He went on to work for the New York State Office of General Services as an engineer, retiring in 1994. Don was a former member of the North Albany American Legion and the USS Coral Sea Association. He proudly served on the USS Coral Sea during his time in the Navy. He enjoyed keeping active, especially through playing racquetball, and was also an avid woodworker, often making furniture for family and friends.
Survivors in addition to his wife Jean, include his daughter Laura Gilchrist and her husband Robert of Castleton-on-Hudson, NY; His nephew Mark Lesperance (Tricia Daniels) and niece Donna (John) Glenn; as well as many other nieces and nephews. In addition to his late parents, Don was predeceased by his brother Richard Lesperance and niece Gail (David) Stock.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:00 am at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville (chapel). Funeral mass will follow the visitation at 10:15 in the main church at St. Pius X. Interment with military honors at Saratoga National Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
