Obituary of Frank E. Horn, Sr.

FRANK E. HORN SR.

ALBANY - Frank E. Horn, 79 of Albany, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 24th, 2024 at Evergreen Commons Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in East Greenbush with his beloved family at his side.

Frank was born on July 7^th, 1944, in Albany NY, the son of the late Frank E. Horn and Ruth Sternfeld Horn.  Upon his father’s passing in 1956 when he was only twelve years old, Frank was quickly thrust into the role of “man of the house” having to help provide for the family from that point forward.  

Frank graduated from Phillip Schuyler High-School in 1963 and immediately joined Laborers’ Local 190 where he worked tirelessly for over thirty years.  He also worked for a short stretch as a Teamster, in support of the movie, “Ghost Story”.  Upon retiring as a laborer, Frank became employed at New York State Office of General Services where he had the pleasure of working with the grounds crew at the University at Albany; occasionally catching a glimpse of the New York Giants as they practiced.  He would remain in that position for another fifteen years before fully retiring.

Frank was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.  In 1980, he moved his family to East Berne where he enjoyed the privilege of being able to walk a few yards to his favorite hunting spot or to a nearby pond to take a few casts.   He often hosted morning hunts with his sons and their friends during deer season.  And believe me, when Frank’s group was in the woods, the deer were almost certainly safe from harm!

If you asked Frank how he was doing, he would probably reply, “I’m broke”.  However, he arguably died a rich man as he leaves behind the legacy of a wonderful family and a life well lived.  Frank is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his sons Frank J. Horn, Michael Sherry (Carol), Frank E. Horn (Lisa) and Christopher Horn (Tara); his daughters Theresa Crawford (Dejuan) and Renee Amoroso (Mario). And yes, you read that correctly, he had two sons named Frank.  He is also survived by his sister Judith Berben, his grandchildren Ashley, Tyler, Michael, Kaleb, Matthew, Ariana, Jack, Ryan, Elaina, and Giada, his great granddaughter Chloe, and several neices and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sisters Ruth Horn and Marie Horn, his nephew Joseph Berben, as well as his niece Linda (Ruhl) Smith. 

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours on Monday, April 1st, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd, Latham.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, 10:00 am at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville.

Interment and Rite of Committal to follow the mass at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
