Obituary of Kathleen S. Sheridan
BALLSTON SPA - Kathleen S. Sheridan, 75 of Ballston Spa, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Kathleen was born on June 6, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Lawrence Carr and Edith Carr (Lindquist). She graduated from Patchogue High School in 1966 and later received her degree from Suffolk County Community College in 1968.
Kathleen dedicated her professional life to helping children and adults with disabilities at Wildwood Programs. She was a longtime Teaching Assistant at Wildwood School, helping students with neurological and developmental disabilities to build life skills. Often found wearing her ever-present apron, she and the students developed many culinary programs throughout her time in the classroom. She later transitioned into a management position at Wildwood Programs' Day Habilitation program, where she continued her dedication to enriching the lives of adults with disabilities by ensuring the continued development of their independence and community interaction.
It was during her time at Wildwood School where she would meet her lifelong friend, Joann Vergine. She and Joann shared an inseparable friendship in their lives, one that was strengthened during Kathleen's illness. The support of Joann and her husband Peter provided an immeasurable amount of comfort these last years.
Kathleen is survived by her two well-loved sons, John (Heide) of East Patchogue, NY and Michael (Nicole Hannon) of Latham, NY. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Avis Sheridan and Colin Sheridan, both of Latham, NY; one step-granddaughter, Adele Ratje-Mundell of Brooklyn, NY; and Alana Hannon and Ryan Hannon, of Guilderland, NY.
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, David Morey, who passed away in 2015. She and David shared a love of many things together, including frequent trips to the coast of Maine, which held a special place in her heart. She had strong opinions not only on where to stay in Maine, but also who served up the best lobster roll with the most scenic view of the ocean.
She is also survived by her brothers, Peter (Virginia) Carr, and Lawrence (Ann) Carr, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings Charles (Lorraine) Carr and John (Mary) Carr.
Kathleen's love for cooking was renowned by all who knew her. She loved to cook for others and always made sure that everyone departed with enough leftovers "for another meal". Her kitchen was more than just a place where she cooked; it was a place of love and hospitality for all.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the special individuals on the Fourth Floor of Albany Medical Center, who truly went above and beyond with their care and support for Kathleen and all of her loved ones during her illness.
