Obituary of Nettie "Jean" Decker
NETTIE "JEAN" DECKER
LATHAM - Nettie Jean Decker, 96 of Latham, beloved wife of the late Cecil F. Decker, entered into eternal life on Monday, May 6, 2024 at her home with her loving daughter at her side.
Nettie, known throughout her life to all as "Jean", was born on June 11, 1927, the eldest daughter the late Frank J. and Edna E. (McCabe) Dupree.
Jean met Cecil through a mutual friend and would often write to her while away serving in the Air Force during WWII. When Cecil returned home on leave, he met Jean for the first time. Jean knew after ten days that this was the man she was going to marry. They went on to enjoy and build a life together for 66 years prior to Cecil's passing in 2012.
Jean loved being a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to sew and made most of her daughter Deb's clothes and would make clothes for her granddaughters occasionally as well.
Jean is survived by her loving children Robert C. (Phyllis) Decker, Deborah (late James) Graulty and Douglas P. (Sandra) Decker. Also survived by her grandchildren Craig R. (Chanda) Decker, Catherine J. (Steven) Giamalis, Cynthia J. (Adam) Deuell, Patrick D. Decker, Sharon D. Pailley (James Wolfenden), Barbara M. Decker (Jason Bennett), Emerson (Amber) Childs and Jennifer (Jeffrey) Smith as well as great-grandchildren Rylan and Liam Decker, Shawn Giamalis, Natalie and Leah Pailley, Autumn and Summer Childs and Austin, Connor and Benjamin Smith and her sister Doris (late Stephen) Dumas.
In addition to her late parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by her youngest sister Phyllis Feiden.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, May 10th, 2024 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at The Dufresne and Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. A prayer service will take place at the funeral home immediately following the visitaion (12:00 pm). Jean will be laid to rest next to her husband Cecil at Memory Gardens immediately following the funeral home services.
