Obituary of Joseph Jong Sung Park
JOSEPH JONG SUNG PARK
LATHAM - Joseph Jong Sung Park passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, in Troy, New York. A beloved husband and decorated Army Veteran, Joseph was born in Janghang, South Korea, on March 20, 1933.
When civil war broke out in Korea on June 25, 1950, Joseph enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 while still wearing his high school uniform. The South Korean government recognized his dedicated and courageous service during the Korean War by honoring him with the Hwarang Medal and the Gold Star Medal. Joseph continued his career in the Military Police in the South Korean Army, where he also served in the Vietnam War. He is a member of the Korean War Veterans Association of the USA in Albany, New York.
Joseph is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Mary Sinn Ja Park. Together they have two daughters and a son, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Mary and Joseph immigrated from South Korea to the US in October 1975 and have been living fruitful and fulfilling lives. They are faithful parishoners of The Albany Korean Catholic Church and loved people. Joseph was also an avid golfer who achieved a hole-in-one twice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024 at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 24th, 2024 at the Albany Korean Catholic Church, 17 Exchange St., Albany beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Latham.
