Obituary of Gregory J. Nash
GREGORY J. NASH
ALBANY - Gregory John Nash, 52 of Albany, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, June 27, 2024.
Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of Jacqueline (Neary) and the late William J. Nash Jr.
Greg attended St. Pius X School and graduated from South Colonie Central High School.
From the beginning, Greg's passion was always music. Music was the love of his life, his language. It was always "Music first". Greg was a prominent figure in the local music scene and dominated the drums for two decades before he suffered a massive stroke in 2017, which slowed him down musically but never altered his determination and love of drumming. He persevered with the singular focus of getting back to his element of playing drums at his highest level possible. He enjoyed sharing the love he had for his passion through teaching and advising within the music industry.Beginning at the young age of eighteen, Greg was involved with countless local bands as well as groups throughout the country; Most notably Toys in the Attic, Blue Jeanne Blue, Ten Year Vamp, Soul Session, Stripped, Eastern Highs, and his own solo album "Baby".
Greg was also a lover of animals, especially his cats.
He will be forever missed and eternally cherished. His spontaneous sense of humor, his spirit, and his music will live on forever in the hearts of those who love him.
In addition to his late father, Greg is predeceased by his siblings Nancy L. Nash, Daniel M. Nash and William J. Nash III as well as his niece Jacqueline Nash Kindlon.
He is survived by his mother Jacqueline Nash, siblings Derek Nash and Natalie (James) Keenan, nieces and nephews Madelyn, Klara, Derek Jr., Colin, Mason, and Daniel (Alexis) as well as great-nieces Harper, Keira, Scarlett, and Nora.
