Obituary of Martha L. Murgia
MARTHA L. MURGIA
LATHAM - Martha Laureen (Lockwood) Murgia, 83, longtime Latham resident and beloved wife of the late Henry “Hank” M. Murgia., entered into eternal life on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 while in the comfort of her home with family at her side.
Born in Albany, NY, on October 30, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Lauren C. and Martha C. (Carlson) Lockwood. Martha and Hank were married on September 24, 1960 sharing a blessed union of over 56 years prior to Hank’s passing in 2016. Martha was a graduate of Coxsackie Athens High School. In addition to raising her cherished family as a devoted wife and loving mom, Martha worked as a Service Representative for General Electric in Waterford for 30 plus years. She was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham.
Martha (Marty) loved her family and anything that celebrated that - holidays, graduations, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and parties. Marty loved people as evidenced by her many lifelong friendships. After retirement, Marty loved to travel around the country with her husband and visit her children and grandchildren. As her health declined, Marty found other things to be passionate about – she was a voracious reader, loved a good crossword puzzle, engaging in daily Wordle games with a dear friend, and continued to maintain remaining relationships while cultivating new ones. New friendships were the norm for her due to her unfeigned interest and love of people.
Martha is survived by her children Mark (Kyong Suk) Murgia of Killeen, TX, Michelle (Scott) Trunkett of Suwanee, GA, Michael S. Murgia of Latham, and Melinda (Darrin) Nardi of Sun City West, AZ, her grandchildren Deena Murgia, Sean (Sade) Murgia, Matthew (Skyla) Nardi, Marissa Nardi, as well as her greatgrandchildren Tiler Murgia, Jayden Murgia and Jason Murgia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend services on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet Shaker Rd., Latham. Calling hours will be held in the chapel from 9:00 to 11:00 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, which will take place in the main church, with Reverend Geoffrey Burke, celebrant. Interment in the family plot of Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie to immediately follow the mass.
