Clara "Pia" Aliberti (née Popolizio), aged 81, passed away on September 9, 2024, in Latham, New York. Born on March 4th, 1943, in Ruviano, Caserta, Italy, Clara was a beacon of independence and determination. Immigrating to America at the tender age of 19 with only $5 in her pocket, she not only established a thriving life but also succeeded in bringing her entire family to the United States.
Clara's career was marked by her extraordinary work ethic, starting with her first job at a baseball factory where she sewed baseballs. She later worked for New York State, advancing from a custodian to an electrician, and retired in 2002 after 35 years of dedicated service.
A devout Catholic and dedicated parishioner of St. Ambrose church for over 46 years, Clara's faith was a cornerstone of her life, attending daily mass and actively participating in church activities. Her hobbies included hosting every family gathering, especially Christmas Eve, tending her garden, seeking out the best grocery deals, and spending quality time with her children and grandchildren, often helping them with household tasks (especially ironing). Clara never forgot a birthday or anniversary and also enjoyed watching "Wheel of Fortune," sipping cheap wine, and cherishing moments with her close circle of girlfriends.
Clara is survived by her children, Teresa (Gary) Mills, Lisa (Keith) Wright, and Joseph Aliberti; grandchildren Gary Mills Jr., Samantha Mills (Jordan Goethel), and Alex Mills; great-grandchildren Jenna Mills and Gary Mills III; brother Nicola (Philomena) Popolizio; sister Ada Altieri; and several loving nieces and nephews. Her grand-pups Lucy, Casita, and great grand-pups Winston and Rico also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Teresa and Vincenzo Popolizio, sister Matilda (Nick) Gallo, and former husband, Samuel Aliberti.
