JOHN G. SHERIDAN
Latham-John G. Sheridan, 67 of Latham, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Community Hospice in Samaritan Hospital, Troy.
Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late John W. and Adele A. (Cleary) Sheridan. He attended St. John's University and graduated with a business degree from his beloved alma mater.
He was the General Manager for the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation in Long Island where he oversaw parks such as Jones Beach, Bethpage State Park, Belmont Lake and several others. He moved on to become Commissioner of Suffolk County Parks, Recreation and Conservation until 1989. He retired in 1995 as Regional Director of the Saratoga/Capital District Office of State Parks. After his retirement, he maintained a position at the Albany County Hockey Facility in Loudonville, NY.
John was an avid golfer with a special love of the game. He eagerly anticipated the arrival of the golf season and could be found most days enjoying a round of golf with close friends.
Survivors include his loving children John M. (Janine Iamunno) Sheridan of Astoria, NY and Michael (Kathryn) Sheridan of Latham, NY, his cherished grandson Liam Patrick Sheridan, devoted friend Kathleen Carr Sheridan, brothers Thomas (Linda) Sheridan of Tampa, FL, Paul (Chris) Sheridan of Raleigh, NC, William (JoAnn) Sheridan of Cold Spring Harbor, NY his sister Adele (Frank) Vozzo of Latham, NY, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY.
Donations in memory of John may be made to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
