Obituary of Louis W. Franklin Jr.

LOUIS W. FRANKLIN JR. Menands- Louis W. Franklin Jr., 88 a lifelong resident of Menands and son of the late Louis W. & Rose (Dornak) Franklin Sr., passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 13 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland with his brother Charles & nephew Kevin by his side. Born in Troy on May 27, 1922, Louis worked for the Schaeffer Brewing Company in Albany until it closed. He then worked for the Albany County Sewage Treatment Facility in Menands until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church in Menands & Sacred Heart Church in North Albany. Louis was also a member of the Menands Senior Citizens Club and was an avid gardener; growing fruits & vegetables in his spacious garden. Lou never married or had children and is survived by loving brother and sister; Charles (Doris) Franklin of Latham & Rose Lux of Albany as well as several cherished nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his sister Marianne Gies. Funeral services will be held Monday April 18 at 12:00 noon at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Fr. Francis DuBois will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday April 17 from 2-5 PM at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Care for their compassion & care and especially Sr. Maryanne for her kindness and prayers the last hours of Louis's life. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Menands Fire Department in Lou's memory. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
