Dear Lehner family,
Our hearts go out to you with deepest sympathy for the loss of your husband and father.
We only met your husband and father a few times but in those times we could see what a loving man he was and a true patriot. One of our memories was riding with him on the Memorial Day parade float in Fonda a few years ago. Watching him as he rode the float showed how proud he was to have served in the military. We were honored to be on the same float with him.
In stories we've heard from Joyce, we could see the love of family that permeated from his character. We know that no words can console you at this time, but just know you are in our prayers. If there is anything we can do, we'll be here.

I had so looked forward to seeing Bud again at our September reunion in Waterloo. As a former Association officer and current Executive Committee member, he served us well with the same spirit and dedication he gave our ship during his active duty years aboard. Fair winds and smooth sailing as you pass into the place I know you are going and where we all hope to see you again.

Dear Dad, I will miss you so much. You and Mom are the best parents anyone could ever have. You taught us so many great values in life and such closeness and love for our family and others. I don't know any families as close as we are and who have shared so many special moments and fun together as we have. I'm glad we always said "I Love You" to one another,at a time like this I would not have any regrets on you knowing how I felt about you or you about me. You are our hero like us girls have always told you.You never judged us but instead were always there to support us with advise and love and always had the answers to all our questions. Dad you will always be with me and I already miss you so much. Thank you for the best life a child and woman could have with parents like you and Mom.
Love Always and Ever,
Carol

There's something like a line of gold thread running through a man's words when he talks to his daughter, and gradually over the years it gets to be long enough for you to pick up in your hands and weave into a cloth that feels like love itself.
He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.
Love you until the end of time. You were my hero and my strength. Joyce

Grandpa, I will miss you so much...You have always been a huge part of my life. Always there to tolerate the dance recitals, the baseball games and all the other events us kids participated in.
I appreciate all the furniture, shelves and cabinets you have made me over the years. Those mean so much because they were made with love.
This is not good bye, this is a Till we see each other again.
I love you...

Flo,
I am so sorry to hear about Bud's passing. I am truly saddened.
As a, "Tin Can Sailor" and a Vietnam veteran, I salute the World War II and Korean War vets. They had it so much harder than us. You both are the "Greatest generation".
During my years at Siena College, I was in a business fraternity. Part of our ritual was the order to live our lives in such a manner that it could then be said upon our passing that the world is a better place for us having dwelt upon it. I submit to you that the world is a better place because "Bud" shared his love and friendship with all of us.
May "Bud" rest in the peace that he has earned. Flo, always wear a smile on your face when you think of "Bud". I know I will.

Dear Florence & girls--when I opened e-mail today I could not believe it. I remember when we found out about association -the meeting was in Buffalo headed by Bud. We came early and so the first Sully from association that we met was Bud and we have been blest to call him & you dear friends. I can see the girls dancing at our last nights. My deepest sympathy goes out to you. You were such a very special couple. My heart bleeds a little today. In sorrow and love, Shirley

I first met Bud Lehner in August, 2010 after learning that his wife, Florene, is related to me as well as my two sisters. It turns out we are half sisters... We came to together for the first time to meet and get to know each each other at his daughter Debra's home. He was a real gentleman and interesting to talk with.We all shared lots of great stories about our families. My only regret is that he has left us so soon. I would have loved to spend more time with Bud and his wonderful family. He was blessed with a lovely wife and 6 beautiful daughters who adore him. Not to mention all of the grandchildren. He has left a real mark on everyone who knew him, and I am proud to say that I had the opportunity to meet him. May God be with you Bud and bring much peace to you. With loving thoughts and prayers.
