JOSEPHINE ELLEN SALOMONE
Latham-Josephine Ellen Salomone, 97 of Latham, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Our Lady of Hope Residence, in Latham.
She was the oldest child of the late Sebastian and Maria (Bonomo) Salomone born October 11, 1913 on the family's farm in Leominster Mass. During her adolescence the family moved to Albany where she remained for the rest of her life. She graduated with honors from Albany High School in 1932 and worked for several years for New York State.
Family was the focus of Josephine's life. She was a devoted caretaker for her parents until their passing and a second mother to her nieces and nephews who have fond memories of her wonderful Italian cooking and the many enjoyable hours she spent reading and playing with them as children, as well as her support and encouragement to them as adults.
Survivors include her sister Angela Ehrhardt of Queensbury, her nieces Kristine Zeronda of West Sand Lake, and Andrea Ehrhardt of Naples, Florida, her nephews Mark Ehrhardt of Lake Luzerne and Dr. Willis (Christine) VanDyne of Latham, her cousin Dr. Matthew Casimo of Camas, Washington as well as several generations of extended family members. She was predeceased by her sister, Katherine Zeronda.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday July 25, 2011 at 1:30 pm at Our Lady of Hope Chapel, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham with Rev. Firmin Finn and Rev. Dominic Ingemie concelebrating
Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday from 12-1 pm at Our Lady of Hope Residence, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham.
Interment will be in the family plot at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Roberta Miller who provided outstanding care and support to Josephine for many years, enabling her to remain at home until she was 95. Dr. Miller's skill, dedication and compassion will never be forgotten. Finally, we wish to acknowledge the Little Sisters of the Poor and all the staff at Our Lady of Hope Nursing Home for the unparalleled care and loving kindness they bestowed on Josephine for the final two and a half years of her life.
