Obituary of John J. Ferris

JOHN J. FERRIS Latham- John J. Ferris, 78 of Latham, beloved husband of Susan A. Benoit Ferris passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side on Sunday, February 9, 2014. Born in Albany on November 7, 1935, he was the son of the late Hugo and Sally (Pagini) Ferris. He was a graduate of Cathedral Academy Class of 1953; he then received his Associates Degree from Hudson Valley Community College. He proudly served his country in the US Army. John was married to the former Susan A. Benoit on June 28, 1958 and the two shared a blessed union of almost 56 years together prior to his passing. John was employed with the NYS Taxation in Albany as a Tax Auditor and then also worked with the Education Department in the Library System, retiring in 1990. He had a love for sports and enjoyed golf, bowling, racquetball, fishing and softball as well as coaching his children's school basketball teams and watching his grandchildren play sports. John loved to travel to their home in Holiday Florida in the winters and the conversations he had with his friends from across the country. He enjoyed a love of woodworking and doing projects for everyone especially with helping with any remodeling of his children's homes. A true family man he cherished spending time with his family along with his pet cats as well as his children's pets. John was a fun loving person who was loved by everyone and with his caring nature would do anything for anyone. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his loving children; Lynne (Mark Biel Sr.) Guynup of South Colonie, John (Angela Cesare) Ferris of Latham, R. Scott (Hillary) Ferris of Stephentown and Steve (Dee Pabon) Ferris of Troy and his cherished grandchildren; Eric Daigneault, Stephanie (Omar) Vazquez, Sean Malone, Vinnie, Bridget, Charlie, Zachary and Rachel Ferris, his adored great grandsons Myles and Zachary Vazquez as well as his brother Eugene Ferris of Albany and sister Mary "Mitzi" Walsh of Syracuse. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday February 12, 2013 from 4:00 -7:00 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday February 13 at 11:00 am in St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Fr. John Cairns will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144 Interment will take place in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Latham.
