DEBORAH LEE BORDWELL
Niskayuna- Deborah Lee (Newell) Bordwell, 61, of Niskayuna, wife of James C. Bordwell passed away on May 14th 2014, in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Born in Troy, New York on August 20th 1952, Deborah was the daughter of the late Frank and Jocelyn (Ferguson) Newell. She grew up in Colonie and was a graduate of Colonie Central High School and received her Master's Degree from Russell Sage College.
Debbie and Jim were married for 33 years and recently renewed their vows in Jamaica while hosting their daughter's wedding. Debbie was a teacher who focused on special needs adolescents and worked within a variety of settings including Tryon and her most recent job at Brookwood S.C. Debbie enjoyed being with her family, friends and her dogs. She enjoyed Lake George and the Adirondacks, attending plays and dancing. She was an accomplished quilter and knitter. She had a sparkling personality that would light up the room.
Survivors of Debbie include her children, Andrew (Ralaine) Bordwell, San Diego, CA, Dr. Ashleigh (John) Voychick, San Diego, CA. Her siblings Laurie (Michael) Nugent, Babylon Village, NY, Jeffrey (Deborah Sue) Newell, Lincoln, RI, David A. Newell, Queensbury, her sister in law: Kathleen (Poulin) Newell of Queensbury and her beloved nieces and nephews, Daniel, Lauren and Julianne Nugent, Jennifer (Seth) Leavitt, Catherine (Jon) Chabot, David J., Elizabeth Newell, Jared, Madelyn and Aaron Newell. She is also survived by her aunt Rosalie (Ed) Powers) many dear cousins and her lifelong treasured friend Karen Davis Baier. She loved her 4 dogs and they will miss her deeply.
Debbie's entire family wishes to acknowledge with sincere gratitude the many expressions of love, kindness and support shown to her by her friends, neighbors, and healthcare professionals during her brave battle.
While we are deeply saddened by Debbie's early passing we want to celebrate a life lived with passion, caring and sparkle!
Relatives and friends are invited and may come to celebrate Deborah's life on Friday May 16 from 4-7 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday May 17 at 12:00 noon at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, 1801 Union Street, Schenectady with Fr. Robert Longobucco officiating.
