GEORGE A. MURPHY
Latham-George A. Murphy, 79 of Latham, beloved husband of Lucy I. O'Brien Murphy, entered into eternal life on Friday, August 15, 2014 at his home in Latham with his loving family at his side.
Born in Watervliet he was son of the late Frank and Esther L. (Maxwell) Murphy. He was a graduate of St. Brigid's School in Watervliet, C.B.A. and Siena College with a bachelor's of business degree. Mr. Murphy married Lucy I. O'Brien October 8, 1960 and the two have shared a beautiful marriage for over 53 years. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army stationed in the Artillery and Guided Missile center in Fort Sill Oklahoma where he taught mathematics in the officer's candidate school.
He was an Accountant employed by Ford Motor Company in Green Island for over 30 years. George was active in St. Ambrose Parish and was a volunteer for many years. He had a special love of his family and enjoyed winters in Florida.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children Brian (Anne) Murphy of Valrico, FL, Laura Roberts of Sebastian, FL, Karen Murphy of Germantown, MD and Grace (Robert) Selkis of Latham. His cherished grandchildren, Meghan and Elizabeth Selkis, Kathryn, Spenser and Matthew Anzalone, Samantha and Courtney Roberts and Caitlin Murphy. He is also survived by his sister Claire Leathem , brother Howard Murphy and several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his brother, Francis Murphy and brother Thomas Murphy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday August 19, at 10:00 am in St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham with Rev. Anthony Barratt officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday August 18, from 5-7 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
