Obituary of William F. Sherry

WILLIAM F. SHERRY Loudonville - William F. Sherry, 87 of Loudonville, beloved husband of the late Virginia Zaloga Sherry, entered into eternal life on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Kerin) Sherry. William was an Engineer, employed by General Electric Co. in Schenectady for over 42 years prior to his retirement. A Loudonville resident since 1950, he was a member of the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192. He was former neighborhood commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America; president of the Shaker High School Dad's Club; president of the Turnpike Rod & Gun Club, and president of the Colonie Pop Warner Football. An active member of St. Pius X Church he served as president of the "PEP" group, an usher for many years and a money counter. William was an avid fisherman and hunter and received the NYS "Conservationist" award. He served on the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission and also a former officer on the Albany County Conservation Alliance. Survivors include his loving sons William (Judy) Sherry of Shawnee, KS and Joseph T. Sherry of Clifton Park, his cherished grandchildren Jessica (Thomas) Bitting of St. Louis, MO, Erica Sherry of Mariam, KS and Samuel Sherry of Norman, OK, his adored great-grandchildren Liam and Zoey Bitting. He is also survived by his nephew Ronald Sherry. He was pre-deceased by his brother Edward Sherry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday October 13, 2014 at 9:30 am at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville with Rev. James Walsh officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Sunday October 12, 2014 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Interment will be next to his beloved wife Virginia in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Albany. The family wishes to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the fourth floor at Albany Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion given to William while he was under their care.
