JOHN E. KAMPF
Latham- John "Jack" E. Kampf, 77 of Latham, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's, in Albany surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Albany on March 8, 1937, he was the son of the late J. Kenneth and Althea (Russell) Kampf. Jack was a graduate of Albany Academy and the University of Rochester with a BA in Economics. He proudly served in Korea in the US Army.
Jack was employed for 37 years as a Computer Analyst with New York State. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol for 35 years and patrolled at Oak Mountain in Speculator for over 10 years. He taught CPR & Winter First Aid and after retirement, he enjoyed many day and week trips with the OC Ski Club.
Jack was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Schenectady for over 40 years and enjoyed chairing the shoe dept. at the semi-annual Bargain Sale. He was a committee member for Boy Scout Troop 279 for 10 years and enjoyed camping and outdoors. He challenged the Scouts to complete a 1 mile swim each summer at Yawgoog Scout Reservation in RI. He completed many 15K Utica Boilermaker races, Adirondack 10 mile Distance Runs as well as many 5K races. Jack was a well-respected & fair landlord and was meticulous about maintaining his buildings & gardens. His red cannas, dahlias and tulips brightened many neighborhoods.
He also loved to travel the US especially Hawaii, USVI, Europe, South America, NZ & Australia as well as many family vacations in Cape Cod and out West in Montana and SD. He enjoyed his timeshare, meeting new people and trying local foods.
The family is grateful to Dr. Sosa-Suarez & his team, St. Peter's Hospital CCU & Hospice Inn for their compassionate and loving care of our dear Jack.
In addition to his beloved wife of 42 years, Eleanor, he is survived by his loving children: James and his wife Lauren Kampf of Niskayuna and Jeffrey and his wife Merrill Kampf of Voorheesville as well as his 2 cherished grandchildren: Jr. and Emma and his sister: Althea (Ed) Hamilton of West Sand Lake and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday October 16, 2014 from 4-6 pm at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY
Funeral services will be held Saturday October 18 at 11:00 am at Loudonville Presbyterian Church, 22 Old Niskayuna Road, Loudonville. Pastor Elaine Woroby officiating.
