Obituary of Julia "Mary" Flanagan

JULIA "MARY" FLANAGAN Albany- Julia "Mary" Flanagan, 89 of Albany, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at St. Peter's Hospital, in Albany. Born in Albany on January 26, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Rose (Dice) Matrese. In her younger years Mary worked in many retail stores throughout Albany. She then was employed as a clerk for the Dept of Motor Vehicles and later with City Hall in the City of Albany and the NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance. She retired in 1982 after many years of dedicated service. Mary is survived by her loving children; Roseann (Patrick) Horan of Poughkeepsie, Edward M. (Clementine) Flanagan of Albany and Christine (Kevin) Shultes of Rotterdam. She is also survived by her 8 cherished grandchildren, 9 adored great-grandchildren as well as her brother David (Marge) Matrese of Guilderland her sisters-in-law; Ruth Matrese of Voorheesville and Mary Matrese of Castleton and several nieces nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her 4 brothers Vincent, Carmen, Harry and Neil Matrese. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday March 17 from 10:00 - 12:00 pm at Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home, 8 Dudley Heights, Albany. A celebration of Mary's life will take place at 12:00 noon immediately following the visitation at the funeral home. Pastor Bob Hoffman will officiate. In Lieu of Flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Albany Senior Center 25 Delaware Ave, Albany NY 12210 with a designation for transportation. On behalf of Mary's family they would like to thank everyone who supported her with their prayers, cards and encouragement over these past few months. She was truly blessed & loved. Sincere gratitude goes to the entire staff of St. Peter's Hospital whose unending care & acts of kindness will never be forgotten. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
