LOUIS L. BIRD Latham- Louis L. Bird, 94 a resident of Latham for his entire life, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Eddy-Ford Nursing Home, in Cohoes where he was currently a resident. He had formerly lived on Pine St. in Latham, in the house that he had built himself, with his sweetheart wife of 56 years Grace Anglum Bird, who predeceased him. He also lived at Sheehy Manor in Watervliet and Colonie Manor in Latham. Born in Green Island NY, he was the son of the late William and Matilda (Albert) Bird, also of Pine St. in Latham. Lou was a 1933 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy. Lou worked at the Cohoes Envelope Company in Cohoes, the Arsenal in Watervliet, and at General Electric in Schenectady. He was employed in the Schenectady Relations & Utilities Dept. at General Electric and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He and his wife were long time active members of the Colonie Senior Citizens Club and had many friends there. He was in many holiday parades, shows and theme parties. He received the Mildred Best Willey Award for persons who exemplify wisdom, energy, creativity, leadership and dedication to the Senior Community. Mr. Bird loved hunting & fishing and spent many fall days in the Catskill & Adirondack Mountains on camping & hunting trips with his friends. He and his wife traveled extensively to Alaska, Canada, Florida, Massachusetts, & Hawaii covering all 4 corners in this area of the world. He enjoyed his daily walks, fresh cool air, and the wind at his face & back. Nature was especially important to him, and he loved to observe all of gods gifts such as blue skies, sunrises, & large and small trees. He was a member of St. Ambrose Church in Latham and was an altar boy in his youth at the original church on the corner of Old Loudon Rd. & Raymond St. He had a great love and devotion to St. Joseph & St. Theresa. He is survived by his loving daughter: Ginny (Bird) Costello and her husband Jim of Wilton, CT. along with seven cherished grandchildren; Jim, Susie, Tom, Dan, Terrie, Jodi & Stacy and their spouses and partners. Also surviving are 10 great grandchildren; Kevin, Kelly C., Shane, Thomas, Cassidy, Halley, Jack, Nicholas, Kelly D., & Kayla. He cherished in him heart the memory of his son Louis Bird Jr., daughter Nancy Bird Gitto, granddaughter Maureen Costello, and his 2 brothers William & George who predeceased him. Funeral Services will be held Saturday November 17 at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham, where Lous mass of Thanksgiving and celebration of his life will take place with Fr. Francis Dubois officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham on Saturday morning from 8:30-10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Louis Bird to the Colonie Senior Citizens Club Inc., 6 Winners Circle Colonie, NY 12205.
