JOSEPH J. HOGAN
Latham- Joseph J. Hogan, 86, of Latham, beloved husband of Bertha A. Ostwald Hogan for 57 years, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at St. Peter's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Albany.
Born and educated in Watervliet, he was the son of the late Joseph T. and the late Anna C. (O'Brien) Hogan. Mr. Hogan married his beloved Bertha A. Ostwald May 14, 1950 in Troy, New York. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945.
Joe was a member of S.W. Pitts Hose Company for over 48 years and served as treasurer for several years. He was also instrumental in organizing the North Colonie Emergency relief squad. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for many years and was a 55 year member and past president of the local chapter of the National Association of Letter Carriers. Joe was active in the initial sports program at St. Ambrose Church and helped to organize the fundraiser for the Gymnasium. He enjoyed woodworking and golfing. Joe had a special love for his family and especially his grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere thank you the Community Hospice of Albany, the staff at St. Peter's Nursing Home and the S. W. Pitts Hose Co. for the care and compassion shown to Joe during his illness.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his loving children, J. Brian Hogan of Latham, Dennis J. (Kathleen) Hogan of Annandale VA, Sharon (Peter) Fletcher of Waterford, Mary Beth (John) Hardy of Watervliet, his cherished grandchildren Kevin (Rebecca) Hogan, Caitlin Hogan, Hillary Fletcher, Holly Fletcher, David Fletcher, Christina Hardy, Karen Hardy and his dear sister Charlene (Robert) Leach of Stuyvesant
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Mae Lester ,Theresa Hall, Loretta Krieger, Agnes Moss, Mary Whalen and Rita Macken and his brother John T. Hogan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham with Rev. Francis DuBois officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday from 4-7 P.M. at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
Interment Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
