Letter From Heaven
To my dearest family and friends, some things I'd like to say ... but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you. It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on. I need you here badly; you're part of my plan. There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight. God and I are closest to you ... in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years, because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over. I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain, then be sure to say to God at night ... "My day was not in vain."
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go. When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go ... from that body to be free, remember you're not going ... you're coming here to me.

I had the honor of meeting Dennis at Hillcrest Commons. I came up onto unit three one day and they said i would be orienting a New aid... well down walks this guy with the most piercing eyes. Yup it was Dennis. We introduced ourselves and from that point on had a ball working together. His humor matched mine and we laughed constantly. When he went down to laurel lake and LaDonna ended up working down there I had more interaction with him. I would go to pick up LaDonna and he would be there and i would give him hell. Of course he would give it right back. I will miss his smile.. his banter and just his kindness.. Rest in peace my friend until we meet again in the garden of heaven.

Dennis,
It has been quite a journey...I will never forget the day at the Naval Hospital, I had been in labor for over 30 hours and so tired. I kicked my nurse out of the room and would not allow her back. That was the first time I saw your smiling face. Your light heart and humor got me through the next few hours...I never thought it was possible to laugh through contractions..lol. After 38 hours...I had an emergency c-section...my husband freaking and me...so scared for my baby, you remained so calm and walked with me right to the OR. It was that love and caring that you brought everywhere with you, making everyone feel comfortable. You could just be you. I will never forget after a few years after I moved back from VA and we were reunited in MA. It has been a wonderful journey and we will never forget you. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend. I'll miss you. I hope you are enjoying your paradise:) Goodbye for now, see you when I come home. God Bless!

Mi nombre es Carlos Chapa. Aunque ustedes no me conocen, fui un gran amigo de Dennis y, recientemente me informaron que Dennis habia fallecido. I met Dennis in Virginia while working in the Navy Hospital ER. Not only a great guy, but funny too. We would talk countless hours about becoming Doctors AND making our first million. I offer my deepest sympathy to Dennis's family and his dearest friends. I had the pleasure of working with Dennis at Laurel Lake. The ties that bind us at Laurel Lake have been broken. We were blessed and honored by having Dennis in our lives. He was very dedicated to the resdient's he served and touched all people across all departments from the nursing staff, to the rehab staff, housekeeping, maintenance, kitchen staff, activities, HD staff, front office staff, the department heads and me the social worker. Dear Dennis you are leaving us now, we all feel empty and sad. You allowed all of your loved ones, friends and co-workers to see and to feel the gloriousness of living. Through your beautiful eyes you continually saw the good side, the bright side, the humor. You taught us that life is too precious, too short and too good to ever take lightly.. We know that you are concerned about the well being of the loved ones you left behind. We should strive to continue to smile and to laugh with each other, with family and friends. Your optimism and eternal hope will never leave our hearts. We will continue to love and support each other. Your tragic death will never reflect your brilliant, charming life. Freinds will always rememeber you as a happy, healthy young man. Wherever you are at this moment we know that you are laughing and joking. As I sit here thinking of how I just talked to you 2 weeks ago and reminiscing about Corps School, FMSS and out first duty station and then finding out how far you have gone in your life it just makes it worse that I and the world is missing a beautiful human being, soul, and a light that will forever shine in my heart. You know I'm not an emotional guy, but when you lose good people it's really hard not to get caught up in your feelings. Dennis and I met in Navy Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, Ill (1995). We became even better friends when we both got stationed in VA.
The man knew everything. The world was his. He was always there for anyone asking his help.
I'll miss the roadtrips, imagining the future, 'the People's eyebrow'(haha) and introuducing me to his family.
The above doesn't even scratch the surface of what Dennis was about.
You're one of the greatest guys I ever befriended Dennis.

I am so sorry to hear about Dennis. He was such an amazing person. His locker was right next to mine through high school and he always had something funny to say to make me laugh. I remember seeing him at our 10 year reunion and we talked for a while it was so great to catch up with him. He will be missed by many!! My deepest condolences go out to the family and please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers!
