AMELIA E. CALCIANO
Latham- Amelia (Emily) Calciano, 91, of Latham, died peacefully in the early morning hours of August 14, 2015 at the Teresian House in Albany. Amelia was born on December 18, 1923 in Jamaica, Queens. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Somma and Olympia (Gargiulo) Somma. Amelia resided on Long Island in the early years of her marriage to the late Louis A. Calciano. The young couple and their children relocated to the Capital District to expand the family home building business. Amelia raised 3 children before going to work at Our Lady of Hope in Latham. Amelia was a wonderful cook and a lover of old movies, but she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family.
Amelia was predeceased by her sisters Olympia Griscti, Ida Somma, and Nancy Morone, and her brother Vincent Somma. Amelia is survived by her daughters Deborah (James) Hildenbrandt and Barbara (Jon) Griffin, and her son Alfred (Smyrna) Calciano. Amelia was the loving grandmother of James (Ashli) Hildenbrandt, Elizabeth (Matthew) Trela, Brian Calciano, Emily Griffin, and Alexander Calciano, as well as great-grandmother to Camelia and Anthony James Hildenbrandt. In addition she leaves behind two devoted nieces, Marilyn McGuiness and Rosemarie Mosmen, and several nephews.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday August 20, 2015 at 11:00 at the Teresian House in Albany. Amelia will be interred at Saratoga National Cemetery with her husband. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Teresian House in recognition of their wonderful care.
