LAURENCE "LARRY" M. BARNES
Latham- Laurence "Larry" M. Barnes, 78, of Latham, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 19, 2016 at St. Peters Hospital in Albany with his loving family by his side.
Born in Cambridge, NY on June 26, 1937, he was the son of the late Milford Barnes and Anna (Mullen) Roberts. He grew up in Granville and spent several of his younger years with his beloved aunt Jennie in Rupert VT. Larry was married to the former Ellen C. Carlsson on September 1, 1973 and the two shared a love and devotion for each other for over 42 years prior to his passing. He served in the Army Reserves from 1955-1960.
Larry was a Package Delivery Specialist with U.P.S in Latham for 32 years, retiring in 1992. He is also a Life member, Commissioner and Current Chaplain of the Schuyler Heights Fire Department for 57 years as well as the Colonie Elks #2192 and U.P.S. retiree's club. Larry was an avid antique car collector and the former president of the Green Mountain Antique Car Club. He also enjoyed playing golf, hunting with his sons, traveling and camping with his family.
In addition to his beloved wife and best friend, Ellen, he is survived by his loving children: Laurie (Wayne) Marble of Waterford, Robert (Sheree) Barnes of Salt Lake City, UT, Jeffrey (Kim) Barnes of South Glens Falls, William Barnes of Schenectady, Michael Boyea and Pam (Andy) Cocozza both of Lake George; Eight cherished grandchildren: Kati (Mike Koblensky) Marble, Andrew (Stacy) Marble, Brittany Holladay, Brooke (Travis) Herrud, Shannon Barnes, Heather Lanfear, Andrew Cocozza and Stephanie Cocozza as well as five adored great grandchildren: Brandon and Madison Marble, Hayden Holladay, Gage and Kennedy Herrud.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday April 22, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 15 Ridge Place, Latham
Funeral services for Larry will be celebrated on Friday evening at 7:00 pm immediately following the visitation at the church with Rev. Janet James and Rev. John Phillippe officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Larry's memory to the Calvary United Methodist Church, 15 Ridge Place, Latham, NY 12110
Interment will take place at Grafton Center Cemetery at a later date.
