Obituary of David E. Quackenbush

DAVID E. QUACKENBUSH Averill Park- David E. Quackenbush, 74, beloved husband of Kathleen M. Bird Quackenbush passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Albany Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home. Born in Troy on September 26, 1942, he was the son of the late Harold N. and Gertrude (Stedman) Quackenbush. David was a 1961 graduate of Watervliet High School. He was married to the former Kathleen M. Bird on September 10, 1966 and the two shared a blessed union of 50 years prior to his passing. David proudly served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. David was employed with the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier. At one time he worked at the Watervliet Arsenal for several years and was a member of the Arsenal Golf League. He was also a member of the Watervliet Elks #1500 and Lifetime member of the Schuyler Heights Fire Company. David enjoyed woodworking and restored cutter sleighs and buckboard wagons, he enjoyed working in his yard as well as his family and friends yards, but most of all he had a strong love for his family especially his two grandsons whom he enjoyed watching at their sporting events. In addition to his beloved wife Kathleen, he is survived by his loving daughters: Janice Quackenbush of San Francisco and Lynn (Richard) Pontore of Waterford. His cherished grandsons: Dominick David and Derrick Thomas Pontore as well as his siblings: Mary (The Late Charles) Orr of Latham, Trudy (Walter) Ellis of Watervliet, Ed (Colleen) Quackenbush of Troy, Marian (Tim) Dawson of Altamont and sisters in Law: Patricia (Carlos) Gutierrez and Anne Marie Bird and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Norman and Charles Quackenbush. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday February 15, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday February 16 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Deacon Helmut Neurohr officiating. Interment with military honors will take place in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
