ROLAND J. BABBITT
Latham-Roland J. Babbitt, 93 of Latham, entered into eternal life on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Stratton VA Medical Center, in Albany.
Born in Cohoes he graduated from Keveny Academy he was the son of the late Delphis P. & Margaret (Johnson) Babbitt. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1946. He served in the European Theater of Operations the Battle of the Bulge. He was a former prisoner of War and a recipient of the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters. Roland was a well known area Real Estate Broker and Agent and owner and operator of Babbitt Real Estate and Insurance in Latham for many years. He served as past president of the Cohoes-Latham Real Estate Board. He was a charter member of the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192 where he was Past Exalted Ruler from 1977 until 1978 and a member for over 49 years. He was a member of the Latham Kiwanis for many years and served as President. Roland was a Life Member of the Latham-Colonie K of C #3394. He was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church where he served as an Usher and he and his family were very active for many years.
Survivors include his cherished children, Lynda C. (Mitchell) Slofsky of Wilmington, NC, Cheryl M. Babbitt, Roland J. (Anne Marie Hansen) Babbitt II Patricia K. (Scott) Anzalone of Guilderland, and Ronald L. (Mary K. DeJulio) Babbitt of Latham; he was the cherished grandfather of Christian, Dennis, Karl and Michael Hoffman, Lauren Marie Babbitt and Nicole Marie Anzalone. Roland was predeceased by his former Wife, Flora Mosseau Babbitt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday August 27 at 9:00 am in St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham with Rev. Donald Ophals officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY.
Interment with full military honors will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
