Obituary of Francis R. Irving

FRANCIS R. IRVING JR. Latham- Francis R. Irving Jr., 82 of Latham, husband of Jane Gill Irving, died Saturday, October 18, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Born and educated in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Dr. Francis R. Irving Sr. and the late Florence E. (Welch) Irving Stover. He received his Bachelors degree from Syracuse University and received his Masters degree from Boston College. Francis married his wife, the former Jane Gill, on November 8, 1952 in Oswego, NY. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy from 1944 until 1946. Francis was an Engineering Geologist and was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation for over 40 years retiring in 1991. He was an avid skier and golfer. Francis was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham and has been a Latham resident for over 52 years. Survivors in addition to his wife include his children Francis R. Irving III of Sterling Heights, MI, Patricia Irving Anderson of Hull, MA, and Margaret Irving LoRe of Niskayuna, his sisters Virginia Steigerwald of Dewitt, NY and Nancy McCurn of Syracuse and his grandchildren, Ryan, Colin and Amanda Irving, Tyler Longland, Lucas, Matthew and Jack LoRe. Francis is also survived by a large and close-knit extended family. He was predeceased by his brother, Walter H. Irving A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday October 22, 2008 at 10:00 am in Our Lady of The Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke, pastor officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY.
