Obituary of Robert Louis Trudeau

Latham – Robert Louis Trudeau of Latham, New York, a devout Roman Catholic who deeply loved and served God, passed away peacefully on July 10th, 2023, while his children were reciting the second glorious mystery of the rosary. Bob is survived by his beloved wife Marylee Trudeau, children Jeffrey Louis Trudeau, Lisa Trudeau Naus (Morris), Mark Edward Trudeau (Kathy), and Bart Richard Trudeau (Patricia). He is predeceased by his son Robert Scott Trudeau (2011). He has ten grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. He was also a former member of the Jeanne Jugan Association in Latham and a communicant at St. Ambrose Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Bob was ninety-five and residing at Teresian House Nursing Home in Albany, NY at his passing. He was born June 26th, 1928, in Graniteville, Vermont, and was the son of the late Louis and Helen (Theriault) Trudeau and was one of eleven brothers and sisters. After graduating from St. Michael's High School in Montpelier, Vermont, he earned his bachelor's degree in architecture from RPI in 1953. Robert married Marylee Dickson on October 2, 1954, at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Albany. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1948, and in the U.S. Army from 1960-1964.

While attending RPI he worked at the architectural office of Evans and Davis and upon graduating he worked at the office of Architect Randall Atkinson. His ambition, however, was always to have his own firm which he founded in the early 1960s as Architect Robert Louis Trudeau. All his children worked in the firm which was built over and around the family home. The family home and office were his ever flowing and evolving studio, workshop, and masterpiece of design. The firm was renamed Trudeau Architects in 1992 as he transferred ownership to his son. He retired from the firm in 1997 and continued designing and building the home through 2014 with Pepere's Builders in which many of his grandchildren proudly interned.

Bob was an active member of the American Institute of Architects, and he mentored many local architects who all seemed to have valued their experience working under him. He designed many prominent buildings in and around the Capital Region and throughout the Northeast. Some notable buildings include the Saratoga Harness Track, Green Island Italian Club, Parks throughout the City of Cohoes, the 1967 Albany Law School expansion, Cohoes Central Fire House, and several area churches. Projects of special significance include the Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity House on Sunset Terrace, Troy, NY where his fraternity brothers know him to this day. And also the Park Mart Renewal Project (known as the former home to Capital Repertory Theater), which is now listed on the National Historic Register. He was also an active member of Latham Rotary International.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, July 14th, 4-7 PM at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY. Bob's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Saturday, July 15, at Sacred Heart Church, 310 Spring Ave, Troy, NY 12180. Interment will take place immediately afterward in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
